Getting sick is never convenient, and waiting days for an appointment when you feel awful should not be the answer. At Meraz Family Health, we do our best to offer prompt appointments for patients who are unwell and need to be seen right away.
Serving patients in Las Cruces, NM, we provide attentive evaluation and treatment so you can start feeling better sooner rather than later.

What Is a Sick Visit?
A sick visit is a focused appointment designed to evaluate and treat a new or worsening illness or injury. Unlike a wellness exam, the goal of a sick visit is to figure out what is going on, provide treatment, and get you on the path to feeling better as quickly as possible.
How a Sick Visit Works
- You describe your symptoms and when they started.
- Your provider performs an exam focused on the affected area or system.
- Any needed tests such as strep, flu, or urinalysis are completed on site.
- You leave with a diagnosis, treatment plan, and any necessary prescriptions.
We work efficiently without rushing, because getting the right answer matters as much as getting it quickly.
Common Reasons Patients Come in for Sick Visits
We see patients for a wide range of acute concerns, including:
- Cold, flu, and upper respiratory infections
- Sore throat and suspected strep
- Ear pain or ear infections
- Sinus infections and congestion
- Urinary tract infections
- Nausea, vomiting, or stomach issues
- Minor injuries, rashes, or skin concerns
- Fever evaluation
If you are unsure whether your concern warrants a visit, call us. We would rather help you decide than have you suffer at home guessing.

Getting evaluated quickly when you are ill means you receive the right treatment sooner, reduce the risk of complications, and avoid the long waits of urgent care or emergency rooms for issues that do not require them.
Do I need an appointment for a sick visit?
Yes, but we work to accommodate patients quickly. Call us as early in the day as possible and we will do our best to get you in.
What if I am too sick to come in?
Please call us and describe your symptoms. We can advise whether an in-office visit, telehealth option, or another level of care is most appropriate.
Can my child be seen for a sick visit here?
Yes. We see both children and adults for sick visits. If your child is unwell, give us a call and we will get them seen as soon as we can.
When should I go to the emergency room instead?
If you are experiencing chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe injury, or symptoms that feel like a medical emergency, please go to the nearest emergency room or call 911. For everything else, we are here to help.
